Over the weekend, a 45 year old woman from Somerset England who was moving house had decided to have an antique table in her loft valued. Enter on to the scene auctioneer Duncan Chilcott with a keen eye for hidden treasures it would seem. Whilst making his way to the antique table he noticed a flat square object 14ins x 11ins in size. Houxiaoyun was born in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu China in 1977.For now he is a Chinese painting teacher at Xi’An Academy of Fine Arts. At the same time he is the vice-president of Suzhou Calligraphers Association, and  also  a member of the Jiangsu artists Association. The total sale on Wednesday at Christies was well below the low estimate – but these figures that were estimated in June were a galaxy away. A lot has happened in the global markets since then. However, one positive outcome of the high end art market struggling to make even the lowest estimates at the leading auction houses is the huge expansion of contemporary art, increasing by some 250%.  Alex Rotter, Sotheby’s head of contemporary art reported that this year’s November sale came in at $125 million which mirrors that …
