Often it is remarked that the only artist who wouldn’t be in danger of winning the Turner Prize is Turner himself. When I think of the works produced by Henri Matisse it is perhaps the collages that he produced and not so much his paintings which I most associate with him. In 1941 he was diagnosed with cancer and confined to a wheelchair. Having recently divorced he was cared for by one his longtime models, Lidia Delektorskay a Russian woman who looked after him until his death. Born in Fujian province, Southern China, Baijilian was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in July 2007 from Xiamen University of Art.
Baijinlian’s work concentrates on traditional themes, rural landscapes of China features as a predominant subject in her paintings and various still life works. With each painting there is a wonderful use of color and composition. Her works have a simple calm nature to them and a sense of adventure.
So far she has held three exhibitions all in the province of Fujian so far and her works have been awarded respectively, first, second and third places.
